about

Kat and the Hurricane has been rising in the indie music scene and in their hometown, having been named New Artist of the Year by the Madison Area Music Association and winning Best Alt/Indie Band in Madison Magazine's Best of 2020! Their debut album Miles Away was released in 2017. A departure from that album's folk rock sound, the band's second album, Libra, was released in February 2020.
Their newest singles "Sorry That I'm Like This" (November 2020) and "Out of My Mind" (January 2021) are their gayest and most energetic endeavors yet.

The 2016 version of Walls is much more raw than our more atmospheric and polished 2020 version. It’s recorded with just an acoustic guitar, bass, and acoustic drums. Sounds a little grungy, has a yearning desperate vibe. The strumming of the acoustic guitar against the drums sounds very stripped-down and indie punk-ish.
The last verse also has different lyrics than in the new version; this is a story about trauma-bonding in a parked car with one specific person, before it evolved to take on a larger meaning around healing, coping, and survivorship.

lyrics

I am picking away
From the wall that you have built
And I am climbing your fears
To put them in the ground
Give into it
Give into me
I know it hurts
It’s plain to see
But I hurt too and I know you
Want to be safe in everything you do
And it’s not fair
We had no choice
And they can’t steal our fucking voice
So say it loud and say it clear
Do not let them dictate your fear
I am singing to you
Cause I have walls
Built too
And I am hoping you’ll see
That you are just like me
Give into it
Give into me
I know it hurts
It’s plain to see
But I hurt too and I know you
Want to be safe in everything you do
And it’s not fair
We had no choice
And they can’t steal our fucking voice
So say it loud and say it clear
Do not let them dictate your fear
Oh, oh, oh, ah
Give into it
Give into me
I know it hurts
It’s plain to see
But I hurt too and I know you
Want to be safe in everything you do
And it’s not fair
We had no choice
And they can’t steal our fucking voice
So say it loud and say it clear
Do not let them dictate your fear
I am wanting you now
And I am scared to death
I am waiting for you
I hope you want me too
